The Same - Global Game Jam 2026

The Same is a card game about imitating actions and matching identity. The goal is to copy the NPC's actions using cards.

Game Phases🔁

  1. Watch: Observe the NPC's path and actions.
  2. Plan: Place cards into slots and manage your deck.
  3. Execute: Your character follows your card sequence.
  4. Result: Compare your actions with the NPC and receive a rating.

Scoring

  • Placing a correct card scores points equal to its buy cost.
  • Stacking identical cards in the same slot gives 1 extra point per card.
  • Reach rating A or above to unlock the next level.

Rating

F - Failed | A - Passed | S - Good | SS - Great | SSS - Perfect 

There are two types of cards: 

  1. Blue Action Cards: Direction, Steps, Pause, Actions, Expressions
  2. Red Spell Cards: Free to use, taken directly from the deck, sell for 1 token.

(The top-right token shows the buy cost   &   The top-left token shows the sell value)

Screen Layout

  • Top: Card slots showing the NPC's action order.
  • Below: sell cards and use Spell Cards.
  • Bottom: your hand and the deck.

Card Slots

  • Drag Action Cards into slots that match the NPC's actions.
  • The token icon shape must match the shape shown inside the slot.

Deck

  • Start with five cards in hand.
  • View the top three cards at any time.
  • Spend tokens to buy Action Cards.
  • Close the deck after use to refresh it.

  1. Click on the NPC during planning to see their dialogue.
  2. Stack identical cards for bonus points.

This is a tough game! It took me many tries to pass the first level, the second and third were easier since I understood how things worked (though the randomness of the shop still made things take while). I had a fun time, though =)

Thanks for understanding the rules and finishing the game. Due to the very limited development time, we couldn’t add a tutorial level T T. Being able to grasp the mechanics just from text and clear the game despite the shop’s randomness is genuinely impressive! :D

That makes sense - this is still a lot for a jam game! Hope you had fun making it =)
